My First H!P Purchase

Wednesday, 24th October 2007 01:56

Are H!P releases becoming more and more frequent? I can't quite work out if I'm falling deeper and deeper in what can only now be described as 'my obsession' with H!P and I've become unable to resist the temptation of the next new single, album, PB, DVD, shirt, etc etc. I must admit that before I started this blog my knowledge of H!P was very delayed, I very rarely looked for new releases as with such an extensive back catalogue there was so much older stuff to check out, and there still is. At times I find it slightly frustrating that there's so much of the back catalogue that I'm dying to get my hands on, and the minute I think the new releases are calming down and there's going to break, out comes something else that I can't help but preordering...although I'd complain if newer releases were to become fewer, I guess it's just one of them things.
If I think back I can remember my first H!P purchase, this was Mini Moni's 2nd album Mini Moni Songs 2 and for me it was a great feeling actually stumblimg across this album in a shop in London, when I think back there was also a number of other H!P CD releases on the shelf, but at that time I wasn't to sure of the relationship between Mini Moni and Morning Musume, let alone aware of the existance of the mighty H!P.

This album remains one of my favourites, the first track on the album simply titled -OPENING- really blew me away (it even spent a long while as the ring tone for my phone) and that's not even taking into consideration the other tracks on the album. I can imagine that there's some people out there that didn't like the direction this album went, it's no where near as cute and light hearted as their first album, it's much more grown up, and I think this is what did it for me, to be honest I wasn't to sure what to expect, I'd heard a couple of singles from the album; Genki Jirushi no Oomori Song, Mirakururun Grand Purin! and Minihamuzu no Kekkon Song, but to hear the mix of musical styles on the album with the outright cuteness of Mini Moni was something that I never thought I'd hear and it was something that threw me right back into music at a time when I'd lost almost total interest in it.
This interest over time grew into something more than just the music, as I slowly became attached to the members, having favourites and attempting to follow their progress and at the same time discovering new sub groups and other units. I think one of the hardest and complicated things for someone to do is to get into Hello Project and totally understand what the hell is going on, oh but when you finally crack it! Lol, I'm wondering if it's just me that had such troubles understanding H!P.

Whether releases are coming out more frequently or not one thing I do know is that annoyingly my free time is getting less and less and I'm slowly building up a stock pile of CDs, DVD and PBs that I just haven't had time to sit down and go through properly.

These have all turned up within the last week or so, and I just haven't had enough time to sit down and give them the attention they deserve, also add to this Sayumi's Love Hello DVD which I still haven't watched all the way though. I'm quite dissapointed with myself that I haven't sat down and listen to How to Use Sexy properly as I've had it for quite some time now, I've listened to it a few times, but all these times have been when I've been coming home from work...which means I last about 2 songs max before I fall asleep. I really need to set some time aside to relax and go through these.
What must it be like to be a fan living in Japan where everything is readily and easily available. How do they find the time?

Nah. I think H!P is confusing for everyone who hasn't followed from the beginning. Wikipedia was a big help for me! Also starting with MM and working my way out.

Yeah, wikipedia has help me on the whole H!P history but I love Mini Moni, their second album is on my list to buy. My parents just order me three CDs so I should get them tomorrow since they are going to mail them to me today.

I been debating whether I should get the H!P Summer 2007 Concert, like you said with Koharu. I mostly listen to H!P around the 7th generation bu t I follow didn't pay attention till the 8th so it's easy me to follow Jun Jun, Lin Lin, and Aika.

It's great and really interesting that so many people first discovered H!P/Momusu through Minimoni! I've hear so many people say that! Paul you had a great chance exposure to them while in Japan flipping through the channels and it'll be interesting to know how others came across Minimoni before hearing of H!P or Momusu. It's sad that they're gone as so many fans loved this group. Looks like it's definitely time for a H!P holiday! :)

MiniMoni Songs 2 was one of the first H!P CD's I bought, along with the first two MoMusu Best! albums.

It wasn't just you who was confused by the labyrinth that is H!P in the onset of their fandom. For a long time the only PVs I had were Happy Summer Wedding by Momusu and Be All Right! by 11 Water. I couldn't understand why some girls from Momusu were in this video with other girls. It was searching for more info on 11 Water that lead to my discovery of H!P. Hello Project? Shuffle Units? One single units? What the hell is going on here? But what an epiphany it was once everything clicked!

I recall my first items I got in 2005 were the 2 MM best of albums and a couple concert PB's. Of course 2 years later my collection has totally grown lol

Phew, I'm glad I wasn't the only person struggling with H!P when I first discovered them, lol, wikipedia helped me out too, although if I had gone there first it would helped me a lot more.

Strawberrie, I've watched a couple of mins of the concert and it does look good, I'll hopefully get a chance to watch it over the next couple of days, but it looks like it's going to be great, especially with it spanning over 2 DVDs.

GAM would certainly convince most people to get into H!P, Ayaya and Mikitty are such great combo! Bulmasman, did you manage to get your autographs framed?

Djavan, yeah I saw the PV and I have to say I like it and the song a lot more than I thought I would, hopefully I'll get a chance to post about it tonight at some point.

MorningBerryz, it really does look like Mini Moni helped introduce a lot of people into H!P, they were a really great group that seemed to appeal to a lot of people, even to those that aren't big fans of the other units, for example my girlfriend, whose laptop is covered in Mari stickers and has a couple of the singles. It's great that they were so successful, Aibon and Nono, they suited it perfectly.

Arashi, I've just realised that I've never seen the PVs for either 11Water or 7Air's releases, I put it down to the fact that I love Salt5's release so much.

My obsession with H!P is actually going down....I have no idea why. The only thing I buy now are MM's single's/albums.

Looks like I'm leaning towards the saying; 'The more sh*t you own, the more sh*t owns you'.

I've been trying to cut down on the amount of H!P items I buy as well, but I'm not having much luck at the moment, albums are something I always end up buying and the single releases lately have been great, I think the one thing I have managed to cut back on the PBs as I know there's quite a few that I want, but I'm holding back...although I'm not to sure how much longer that will last, lol, I need will power.

One question if I may,
do you think the H!P Summer 2007 Concert DVD is worth to collect? There are quite a few concert DVDs this year already.

Beemer, I still haven't got around to watching the DVD, I keep saying I'll watch it over the weekend, but the weekends seem to come and go so quickly...but this weekend I'm going to give it that little but of extra effort and actually get around to watching it. But from looking at it I'd say it's probably worth getting, having really loved the recent Berryz and C-ute releases I'm hoping that these performances will be the turning point for me when it comes to watching their live performances, plus the fact that it spans over 2 DVDs is an added incentive. I'll let you know what I think once I've watched, but I'm guessing the answer from already will be, yes it's worth getting.

AfanInLondon, the CD was bought in the Japan Centre in London, although that was some time ago (must be a couple of years now) and their stopped getting a lot of H!P stuff in...by the looks of it they've stopped getting a lot of CDs in, but I'm going to check it out on my lunch break today as they've bought the building next door and have expanded into it, I'm not to sure what they've putting into this new building but fingers crossed they'll move the CDs out of the cardboard boxes in the corner back onto some shelving with some new stock!!

Hey Just wondering if Japan Center does still sell CDs? I'm going to London soon and it'd be cool if I'd be able to get some merchandise.

commentComment by paul.thomas on Saturday, 12th July 2008 12:09
The Japan Centre has stopped selling CDs, but they do have quite a large selection of magazines in you'll probably be able to pick up the latest issues of Kindai or UTB and they'll feature some H!P in them. There's a couple of shops you may also want to check out, both really close to the Japan Centre, Mitsukoshi which sells CDs, but they haven't had any H!P ones in for awhile, the last one in was the Morning Musume All Singles album. And Adanami Shobo, which is a second Japanese shop, they sell a lot of books and CDs and they normally have some older H!P CD releases in there, might be worth checking out.
