Farewell to V-u-den
Sunday, 27th January 2008 23:31
I went out for dinner last night to the Outback Steakhouse (I'm always confused as to why they're not a little bit more adventurous with their menus, put a bit of Kangaroo or Ostrich on there) before the mains arrive I pop to the loo and as I was doing my business I whipped out my mobile to check my email and there's a message saying that
V-u-den will be disbanding. I wash and head back to the table, sit down turn to Kat and say "Bad news, V-u-den are disbanding in June", she nods and starts eating, I do the same.
Obviously Kat has as much interest in V-u-den as I do in her favourite group (The Killers) so her reaction is purely justified, but it's more my reaction as a whole that has really shocked me, that I literally just brushed it off as if it doesn't matter. As to whether I've grown accustom to these sudden announcements what with all the trouble last year, or the fact that they're not actually leaving H!P eased the blow I don't know, I'd probably have to say it's a mix of the two.
Now, although my reaction isn't as I would expect I'm still sad to see the unit come to an end as I do love a bit of V-u-den, each of them had their own charm points and although the main focus was always
Charmy, I think they all managed to shine in their performances. Perhaps that's why they are disbanding, have
Erika and
Yui outgrown the group? Do they want more? Although I've always been a Charmy fan, in the past year Yui has taken her over as my favourite within the group, it would be interesting to see how popular both Yui and Erika are compared to Rika, perhaps this has something to do with the whole thing?
Reading the comment over at
Hello! Project website the statement says that the disbandment has something to do with Yui turning 20. Whether this is just a passing comment or it has more meaning behind it I guess we'll find out in time, but from what I understand in Japan 20 is the age that you are considered an adult, perhaps this will have an influence on the direction of her career? With
Maki's departure,
GAM's continued hiatus (although I'm certain we'll see the return of GAM in the near future, considering the Official Stores I visited were still selling GAM merchandise) and now V-u-den splitting up, H!P are seriously lacking a sexy unit, I know in a recent post I mentioned that Yui could be a possible replacement for Maki as this sexy image perhaps this could be her new direction?
The real worry in all of this is with the careers of both Yui and Erika, Charmy doesn't really have any worries, with the unit coming to end it means that she can give her all to
Ongaku Gatas and hopefully it will become a very active unit within H!P, personally I can't get enough of them. And let's not forget the announcement of a new PB release as well, there's no way that Charmy's going down. On the plus side from the the translations from the comments made on
Tsunku's site imply that their roles within H!P have already been decided and mention taking the next step, again implying that theit careers will progress. So I'm crossing my fingers that all the members of V-u-den will remain active. Certainly the thought of either a Yui or Erika PB release in the coming months is something I'd really like to see. I'm guessing that a new unit isn't totally out of the question either, the chemistry between both Yui and Erika has always been strong so perhaps they'll be performing together instead of solo, perhaps with the success of the
Eggs within Ongaku Gatas, what better time to bring some more out and form a new unit, and with Yui being a former Egg herself, she seems the perfect mentor.
All I can really hope is that everyone remains active, it would be a shame to see a group being broke apart for no visible reason and then see two thirds of it disappear.

Comment by bulmasman on Sunday, 27th January 2008 23:35oh man this is some bad news, i really was enjoying v-u-den, and was listening to them just last night infact. On the plus side, if they're all going to be staying within H!P then it's not the worts that could have happened.
Personally i'm unsure as to whether Yui could carry a solo career, although she has a nice voice i don't think it's right for a complete solo job. A unit with Erika would be great though, and it would also be interesting if they formed something with the Eggs.
I can't see the two of them being brushed aside though, they're too good for that.
Comment by John on Monday, 28th January 2008 05:39When Biyuuden was removed from the wonderful hearts i assumed it either had something to do with yui turning 20 or their lack of popularity. I suppose upfront just doesnt see potential in them as a group anymore, and didnt want another melon kinenbi lying around, thats why tsunku stopped writing their songs and their 2nd album was a single collection rather than a studio. I really love all three individuals but i really did start to notice the lack of attention given to them in concerts and appearances and of quality in their singles. I hope erika and yui dont disappear.
Comment by arashi on Monday, 28th January 2008 15:08I came to the same sort of conclusion/theory myself. With Maki gone H!P needs someone to fill the sexy role, and Yui was really coming into her own in Biyuden. I hope that both she and Erika get a solid backing from H!P as they're both pretty damn talented. With the right attention I think they could really shine.

Comment by Nozofan on Monday, 28th January 2008 21:53I was just starting to like themn and the splitted up, the day of my birthday!! So bad news! T^T I really hope that the three girl will still be active in H!P. Hopefully, Onakgu Gatas will be more active because Rika will not be in v-u-den anymore!
Like you said, Erika and Yui would do a great unit with some H!p egg!
