Morning Musume, Berryz Koubou, ºC-ute Poll Results

From the experience of last years poll and the amount of time it took me to sit through and sort the data I decided to give myself a couple of extra days to go through all the data, but even now as I type this the post is late. I had planned to start going through the data at midnight on Monday, unfortunately after downloading all the data and storing it locally I suddenly woke up laying on top of my laptop at 3am, one night down. Tuesday I managed to sort through the data removing duplicate posts and the likes to help get a more accurate and non biased view on the results, with the number of votes taken this time it took most of the night. And then last night I again found myself going to bed at 3am as I start to look and compare the results, although this time I hadn't collapsed on the laptop ;p
I managed to sit down and separate all the votes into their relevant countries and unlike last years I want to cover more individual countries rather than than just the three (Japan, UK and US) I covered before and because of this I'm going to separate the results into two posts, this post, which will cover the overall results and another in a couple of days covering the results of individual countries. I apologise for the lateness of this post and the half finished feel to it, as that's exactly what it is half finished, hopefully later tonight I'll get a chance to sit down and update this with some more of my comments, but the results do a good job of speaking for themselves.

The amount of users voting this time around has been amazing and is more than double that of the previous poll of 487, with a total of 1048 users voting over the three units. Morning Musume received the most votes with 1026 people ranking the members and although both Berryz Koubou and C-ute didn't receive as many rankings they weren't far off. Berryz Koubou received 933 user rankings and C-ute coming in just behind with 930. As to whether we can use this as way of viewing a units popularity I'm not entierly sure, but it's very interesting to see how close C-ute is to Berryz, certainly with the quality of C-ute's releases it's not hard to see why they would be just as popular, with just 3 votes separating them I'm guessing the upcoming 'Battle' concert featuring both units should be an amazing watch, I wonder if the fans of each unit will be separated off in case of possible clashes, although H!P concerts generally sound like a football match I can't imagine H!P 'firms' appearing.
This time around I also wanted to try and collect a little bit more information about everyone that posted, so I gave the option of including age and gender, in the hope of trying to see how our community is built up and if it is similar to that of the general H!P fan in Japan. Admitidly I don't know what the average H!P fan in Japan is but if I go with what I saw whilst attending the concert and popping into the official stores, I'd go with a 16-30 year old male, if anyone knows differently (perhaps there's been an article in a magazine or something similar covering this?) then please let me know as I would really like to compare. To be honest I was really surprised with the amount of people who actually submitted their details, I was half expecting people to just ignore it, but out of everyone who was part of the poll 49 skipped entering the age and 46 skipped gender. As a way to quickly visualise the results I'm going to use a couple of charts.


Looking at the ages it looks like my initial guess seems to be correct. The majority of people are in their teens and 20's. Looking at these results and the amount of you that actually entered the details, it made me wish that I had got a little but more specific and broken down the ages even further, I would have really liked to see, especially with the 11-20 range, what side the majority (if any) falls on, early or late teens or a mix of both. From looking at the age range either side of these -10 and 31-40 and the sudden drop offs, it could be fair to assume that the middle range of the two could be the most common range of fans, say between the ages of 15 and 25., this would leave me just outside the common age range.


This result really surprised me. I was obviously expecting there to be female fans, but I was almost positive that the results would have been reversed, with the guys just leading over girls, I would have even put money on it. As I said previously I can't be certain what the average Japanese fan is like, but I'd hazard a guess that it isn't female.
In the next post I make about the results I'll try and look in a little bit more detail into the both age and sex, I'll look specifically in relation to the units and countries.

Now it's time to look at the overall rankings for each of the units, starting with Morning Musume. But just before we do I'll explain on how we came to these results. It works the same as the previous poll, for each vote that was made each member will be awarded a relevant score, if we take Morning Musume as the example, in my case I ranked Kohachan in the 1st position, for this she will be awarded 9 points (because there are 9 members, the member voted 1st in both Berryz and C-ute would recieve 7 points), whilst Junjun in last place would only recieve a score of 1. These scores have been added together from everyone that submitted their rankings, and ordered high to low, the highest being the most popular member.


First things first...where's the love for Koharu? OK, she may not be last this time around but that's not the point! Being a big fan of Koha this is surprising to me as I was positive that she'd won around a ton more fans since the last poll, with her great singles and amazing PB release I was sure she'd rank higher.
Interestingly the results are quite different to the last poll, with members jumping all over the place. We have Aichan, who came in top of the last poll, falling to 3rd place with Gaki rising to take the top position. To be honest, I'm really quite glad that Gakisan has climbed up to first place as out of all the members she's the one that has grown on me the most and climbed from No.5 in my original poll to No.3 in this one. To help try show and compare the rankings of the two polls I've delved into Excel and knocked up yet another graph which I hope will show not only the positions of the last poll compared to this one, but also the growth each member has made. The results of this was achieved by taking the total number of points for each member and then dividing them by the number people taking part in the poll. The bar on the left side for each member shows the results from the previous poll, whilst the right side shows this poll.


1. Niigaki Risa (6586)
Rising from 2nd place Gaki seems to have not only made an impression on me since the last vote, but on everyone else as well, it has to be that amazing smile and just general cute expression she makes. She's such an amazing personality just seeing on the screen makes me smile. And with a new PB release scheduled in it looks like a lot of us could be buying it.
Her ranking is certainly reflected in her current work within H!P, with Nono gone and Gaki taking over her role of Athena in Robby Kerobby, the formation of Athena & Robikerottsu and with her being part of Morning Musume Tanjou 10nen Kinentai she's certainly getting the attentino she rightly deserves. I wonder if the rest of Athena & Robikerottsu rank as high?

2. Kamei Eri (6436)
Much like Gaki, Kamei has risen since last time. And with only 150 votes seperating them this was the closest battle for 1st position out of the three units. With the recent scandal (if you can call it that) story apparently involving her, it's good to see that this hasn't reflected on how she's been ranked, this is the biggest jump up for any member, with an additional 4654 points when compared to the last poll.

3. Takahashi Ai (6266)
Aichan falling two places to number 3, last years numero uno is now in 3rd place. It's good to see that although she's fallen since the last vote that the current leader of Morning Musume is still ranking in the top 3.

4. Tanaka Reina (5980)
Reina has managed to pull herself up one position since last year from No.5 to No.4. Again though, much like in the last poll I thought that she would rank higher than this. With the amount of PB releases she has (she certainly appears to get more than everyone else within H!P, as to whether she does or not I'm not sure) and the amount of fans she has on forums and blogs I would have thought she would have come in a little higher.

5. Michishige Sayumi (5136)
Sayu has the biggest drop in the results. Although her fall in position is only the same distance as Ai's fall (2 places) it's more the amount of points received or lack of them that makes the fall so drastic. Aichan may have fallen from 1st to 3rd, but looking at the amount of points awarded to her, it's still fairly close within the top three, with only 320 points between her and Gaki. There's a 1130 point difference between Sayumi and Ai, whose in her position from last year. Reina whose ranked one position above her has a point difference of 844, more than double that of the difference between 3rd and 1st position.

6. JunJun (4840)
The popularity of Junjun is very surprising, as she comes higher ranked than both Mittsi and Koha and again if we look at the points awarded to her compare them to the member below her (Mittsi) there's a gap also as large as between Sayu and Reina. Junjun has a 788 point lead on the next member down. I say her positioning above both Aika and Kohachan is a surprise, but it's not really, it's more of a surprise going by how I voted as both Junjun and Linlin appeared at the bottom, I know when I was looking through the results posted up on other sites she ranked quite highly and I was half expecting to her appear somewhere like this.
When I made the original poll although both Junjun and Linlin featured in the current line up I thought it would have been too soon to rank them, only being in Morning Musume a short time and the fact that as a community we all seemed to be a little bit wary of these two new Chinese members, that certainly has seemed to pass.

7. Mitsui Aika (4052)
On looking through the points awarded members seem to be segmented and within these little segments they fight for who will be top of that part. We have the fight for the top positions, Gaki, Kamei, Ai and Reina all fighting it out, and then the fight for the middle to bottom half of the ranking. Sayumi and Junjun scoring quite closely and then Mittsi and Koha. Much like the previous poll Aika comes in just in front of Koha, so close are the results to last year that when taking their scores away from each other there's only 6 point gap difference. Last year Mittsi scored 1440 and Koha 1338, a difference of 102. This time around Mittsi has 4052 whilst Koha has 3944, a difference of 108 points.

8. Koharu Kusume (3944)
Koha's position is really dissapointing for me, obviously being a huge fan of hers I would have really loved her to score higher, she is after all meant to be Morning Musume's Ace. I know a lot of people aren't too keen on her purely because of the amount attention she recieves, with her playing quite a large part in the most of the recent Morning Musume PVs, her solo career (and formation of the one single unit KiraPika), voice acting within Kirarin Revolution and her inclusion in the line up of Morning Musume Tanjou 10nen Kinentai, there's no denying that if you're not a fan of hers it's only going to be made worse by the fact that she's forced upon you all the time.

9. Linlin (2930)
Last but not least is Linlin. And all I can really say is Ouch! She's not only last but look at that score, she's so far behind, 1014 points behind Koharu. Although she was an Egg before apearing in Morning Musume, I think that Junjun has always had the advantage over her. Certainly with Junjun's blog and photos online (didn't she also have a short lived modeling career?) she automaticaly got a lot more attenetion and even though some of it was bad (remember some of them comments left on her blog?) it seems to have worked in her favour.


I'm going to keep the comments here minimal, not because I don't have anything to say, but because I'm typing this sat in the of an office being refurbished, dust everywhere, lots of noise and builders wandering around...oh yeah, and the fact that I should really be working ;p I'll try to update the post with some more comments later on.

1. Tsugunaga Momoko (4534)
In my eyes the top of Berryz was always going to be a fight between three members; Momo, Miyabi and Risako. And I'm really glad that Momo has taken the spot. Much like Gakisan, Momo is a member I've only recently taken a liking too, mainly thanks to that great new unit Buono!. She may at times look a little odd, but I think her cute and funny nature really has helped come out top.

2. Natsuyaki Miyabi (4157)

3. Sugaya Risako (3836)
I was slightly worried that Risako may end up in Koharu territory, with the attention she been recieveing within recent releases I was half expecting to see her turn up in the bottom half. But it's good to see that this isn't the case.

4. Tokunaga Chinami (3620)
Chinami, a member that I've never paid any attention to until the last PV release. For me she made the PV, sure Risako with her pink megaphone and Momo with her aviatar glasses and guitar playing helped, but the PV for Dschinghis Khan is all about Chinami. Hopefully her short hair is gone forever and will get to see some of her in the upcoming releases, perhaps on the next poll will see her raise up higher?

6. Kumai Yurina (3412)

7. Sudou Maasa (3146)


Again, just so that I can get the votes out, I'm going to try and leave making comments on this until later, although I'm not to sure if I can resist making the odd comment here as out of three units C-ute is the one was most interested in seeing the results too as I got the impression the reults were going to be fairly evenly spread out. Aside from the two obvious favourites Maimi and Airi, it's anyone's game.

1. Yajima Maimi (4773)
Maimi comes in top of the C-ute poll, which isn't too surprising as what's not to like about her. Looking at the points she has the biggest lead when compared to the next position down, a lead of 557 point over Airi. I guess they wouldn't just pair up anyone with Nacchi for a single release.

2. Suzuki Airi (4216)
Again like Risako I was curious to see whether Airi would fall into the same trouble as Koharu, being pushed too much by UFA and as a result creating a dislike for her. But it looks like that although Airi certainly has a collection of fans that wouldn't mind seeing less of her and allowing some of the other members come through and share some of that attention it hasn't had an adverse effect on her popularity. Lol, perhaps it's just me and Koharu isn't as fantastic as I think she is? Much like Momo and Miyabi I think a helping factor in her position here is her appearance within Buono!

3. Umeda Erika (3820)

4. Hagiwara Mai (3576)

5. Okai Chisato (3443)

6. Nakajima Saki (3172)

7. Arihara Kanna (3040)

The results are certainly interesting and in the cases of Berryz and C-ute the members focused on the most throughout PVs, PB releases and Special Edition DVDs are certainly the favourite of the fans. The results for both are also fairly balanced there's obviously a favouratism to certain members, but there are no massive fall in points like Morning Musume.
Again, thanks to everyone who took part and I'll try to not only to update this post but add another post looking more into the individual country results.

Woot Gaki-san!

It seems the ex-Eggs aren't too popular. It's a pity, because I think Kanna seems more like a "normal" teenager, if that makes sense.

Berryz order was expected/10. Cute was a little more varied, Sexpot made it to third.

My prediction of rank 1 to 5 are from the 5th and 6th Morning Musume generation was correct! I was surprise Koharu still rank low as she's my favorite Morning Musume member. She is an stand out performer and a bright future ahead. Don't worry, we shall wait for her to overcome this crisis she has. I glad that Gaki-san is on top and she deserve this honor. About Berryz and C-ute, since i have been watching the Hello! Project DVD concert last year, C-ute is raising and can top Berryz at anytime this year. Consider C-ute last PV, the lalala song have stuck in my brain for quite sometime. Thanks a bunch for doing such a wonderful poll, Mr. Paul. Dude, you're rock!!!

Hmm, isn't it a bit "unfair" towards Berryz and C-ute when the #1 girl in MM gets 9 points, and the #1 girls in either of the kids' groups get only 7 points?
Maybe it would have been better to give the kids points ranging from 9 to 1, whilst omitting e.g. the point scores 7 and 3...?

Koha's position didn't disappoint. Unlike Suzuki Airi, who has been pushed quite a bit, Airi can actually sing. Koha can't. There's a biig difference.
Of course, Aichan's position didn't surprise me either. Even though I voted her for first, there are certainly a lot of people who don't like her (and I find the reason mainly because of her haircut. It was an image change - from a younger, more peppy girl to an older, more serious young lady.)

As for the demographics, this officially destroys the myth that Japanese idol music is predominantly middle-aged-male phenomenon. Of course the girls like them! So much for the skeptics, naysayers and pessimists.

I linked the vote on Livejournal, hopefully that drummed up a few votes. It's pretty awesome we got over a thousand people, I'm sure that amount of fans is quite a lot more than most people- especially Japanese- would think they'd have overseas.

Thanks for doing this again, it's really interesting to see the results. :)

The MoMusu rankings have shocked me a bit - what with so much support for the 'new wave' of girls, Mittsi and JunJun are disappointingly low. Not in the least bit surprised about LinLin, though... I had a suspicion that Eri might take the top spot, but clearly she was pipped.

Berryz... *sigh* There's never really been much love for Maasa, has there? :( Top 3 got Top 3, and Chinami probably deserves 4th place.

C-ute... I'm surprised Erika ranked higher than Mai, but that's about it.

o_o how can koha be so low?! *sad* Although I'm not surprised Niigaki is so high up on the poll... I am surprised she got first, maybe just because I'm not a huge niigaki fan, myself. I am also surprised by the fact that more girls voted than boys. I'm really lookin forward to seeing the country seperations on this.

Not surprise Koharu is so low....she is not very well like to female fans compare to male fans. I'm glad JunJun rank higher than I thought although its sad you can say the same thing for LinLin.

I'm not surprised Linlin ranked so low--she hasn't given us too much to like yet, beyond "BACCHIRI DESU!" I was rather surprised that Junjun ranked above Aika though. As for Kussumi, well... I gave her last, so... Uh...

the Berryz and C-ute ones surprised me a little though. It's Leads then everyone else :/ I guess UFA does a good job marketing its lead girls.

Really good job with this ♥ It takes a lot of time and energy to do an extensive poll like this one, and the results are always fascinating. I can't wait until the next one xDD

First a big thank you!!..for working so hard on this poll!!..you're amazing!! You're break down of the data is great too and it really does support the overall idea that UFA is most likely using fan club information or other relative means to help them decide on which members get more attention than others such as pbs and units. I love seeing the top 3 of Momusu so close together in total points and thank goodness Aichan didn't drop any lower!! But you're right as she really hasn't in a sense even though it's 2 spots from your previous poll as her overall point total is still in the top tier of the group. :) It took me awhile to get used to her new shorter and more mature hairstyle but I really think that it suits her so well and she's equally as cute now as she was before. Perhaps it's a unspoken leadership role thing. Ah I still thought that Kamei would rank at #1 but of course I'm too overly biased when it comes to Kamei love!! :P Jun Jun really did well!!...despite still being sort of a new member in the group and that's soooo great to see!!! She's just grown so much as an idol in such a short period of time and I think a lot of the love for Jun Jun may be the result of her ever growing personality and her lack of fear of showing it. I find it ironic that Lin Lin may be the more experienced of the 2 as Jun Jun has just leaped past her...and a few others I see.....hmmmm....her banana incident is now legendary! :P Congratulations to Gakisan!!! She really earned and deserves the recognition of the top spot....no longer in the shadow of Aichan when it comes to their Generation. :) The Athena & Robikerottsu leadership role is such a nice addition for her as well.....haha Nakki wins though when it comes to that unit! Ah kohachan......I'm just as puzzled as you are when it comes to incredibly low ranking amongst fans. Okay you're not the only one that thinks that she's great I'm with you for sure! Perhaps not a great vocalist but she more than makes up for that in so many other ways....starting with personality!....charisma.....and lots of adorable charm wrapped into one...and she's just ultra cute! ^-^

I'm sooo shocked that the female fan base outnumbered the male fan base in this poll!!!! :O!! I can't get over that...it's amazing and perhaps the one thing that I'm most surprised with as I see the results. Thank you for the pie charts that's such a great way to display the results!! Everything about your poll is so professionally done...I'm impressed beyond words!

The results of the Berryz Koubou votes looks really right....if there's any justifiable way to call them as such...I guess they're quite close to how I see them so I can really relate. The only exception would have to be seeing Kumachan rank so low....I really thought that she'd be a bit higher up. The top 2 are solid favorites and Yay! for little Momo coming in first!!! I'm so happy to hear that she's grown on you! :) When I became a fan of theirs and began purchasing all of their commercial releases "Piririto yukou" was their current single and first it was Miya as my #1, then as time passed Momo became #1, and within the last half year or so Rii has taken over the #1 spot in my heart so seeing all 3 of them on top makes me really happy! :) Ah when they first debuted Chinamichan used to have really long hair and then she suddenly cut it shorter but it's great to see her wearing it a bit longer again as it really suits her face so well I think. Well she has really great facial features so I think she can wear it either way but longer gets my vote for sure!

When I initially saw C-ute's first pvs it was Maimichan & Airirchan in a close battle for the top spot and despite Airichan being passed by Nakki and little Maimai recently she still holds a special place with me....she really does resemble a classmate of mine from high school! :) She sings and dances well and with her c-ute personality I think she really deserves all of the exposure that she's currently getting in the H!P family. I truly believe that this trend will cycle around the members in time so it's just a spotlight for her at the moment. Of course Maimichan should always be in the spotlight and her pairing with Nacchi is pure genious!..in more ways than one!! :) paul and it looks like your fave! Erikachan has quite the sizable fan base out there! Hopefully a pb is in her near future as not only is she one of the more mature members in the group but she also possesses nice facial features and by this polls' indication it looks like many will purchase a pb by her as well. Ah.....Nakki.....I'm so shocked that she's soooo low here!! :O Haha it's just me and my biased Nakki love syndrome speaking here! :P She's just so adorable!!! And it's great to see little Maimai right there in the middle of the ranking although I would've placed her just one step higher. ^-^ One final thought is that both Maasa & Kannachan need a little bit more love from UFA to help grow their fan bases...only time will tell!

But I happy that is in 6th place, she could be around 4th place tho.

Im really happy happy that Chinami is in 4th place, not bad! really better that in 6th place....next to Massa. Don't like her.
But go Chinami. Keep supporting her!

Okay Im not really happy about C-ute's results cause Kanna-chan in in last place!!!! Not happy.

That's taken from Best Artist 2007 07-12-11 It shows the stats of all the Japanese Fans that voted for Morning Musume to be on Best Artist. According to that the female fanbase isn't all that far behind the male fanbase =)

Aah. I'm glad to see the results. :) I voted for Niigaki as my first choice, and I belive Koharu was last. I'm not really surprised by the results for Morning Musume. Gakisan is ALWAYS seen smiling or laughing. Rarely is there at time, outside of Sotsugyou Concerts and her earlier appearances on TV where she's not smiling. And fans love that. With her now leading a very popular subgroup with foreigners, it's nice to see Niigaki get some love. :) It's crazy, but I hope that Takahashi will graduate first, and Niigaki will be leader! And then, while she's leader, I hope her and Kamei start a W type group. And, maybe I'm crazy, but when Aibon, wouldn't Tsuji and Gaki be a good group? Did anyone ever see the performance with Gakisan and Tsuji singing 'LOVE Namida Iro'? It was TOO amazing. And they were the same height!

In that sense, I'm also not surprised by Mitsui, Koharu, and Linlin rounding out the bottom. Mitsui is still very new, and new people joined so fast that the attention was taken off of her a LOT faster than Koharu. Koharu..I know that you're a fan, Paul, but I just can't stomach her. D: From her voice to her reaction to things, it just doesn't seem genuine. Now, the Japanese fanbase love her, and that's the main thing that counts, but with foreigners, from what I've gathered from speaking with people, she really comes off annoying. And Linlin-not surprised. Between her and Junjun, Junjun shines much more. And with the newest memebers, she shines the least. I get the feeling she says things most of the time that are VERY scripted, while everyone else is more relaxed. But, I will say, the episode where they debuted on Utaban, when she asked why Iida was called Johnson, that low voice was so cool. Haha, I loved it.

With Berryz, since I'm not a big fan I don't have much to say. I voted Chinami as number one. I've always like her personality more than the others. She's really reserved. And her appearance in the latest video was awesome. She was definately the star of that PV. I voted Risako last, because..well, she reminds me of Koharu. I'm surprised that Yurina didn't make it higher, as she's usually one of the 4 main lead singers. I'm not surprised at all though that Momo, Miyabi, and Risako are the top. And I'm not surprised that Maasa is last. I like her though, ever since I saw a video on youtube where she said, "Hello everybody, I'm Sudou Maasa and I'm..cool. yeah." Haha. :)

C-ute. The results I'm surprised and not surprised. I knew that Maimi and Erika would be in the top, as they're foreign fan favorites. I'm also not surprised that Airi was 2. I figured she'd be three, and Mai would be 2, especially after KiraPika, and the fact that she's been giving a lot of airtime on TV shows and PVs and such. And Chisato and Saki. I was hoping theyd be pushed up just a bit from Athena and Robikerottsu, but I suppose not.

Aaah. This has inspired me. I'm gonna start my own Hello!Project Fan Blog. :)

First off, thanks for doing this! <3 Now then... as far as Koharu, a lot of people don't really like her because she comes off as appearing very fake. Everything just seems to be over the top with how she acts and really... her singing is seriously lacking. She's a great dancer but that's about all I can put in on her. I honestly liked Koharu more when she first debuted in morning musume but now, she's just this annoying little twit. I'm glad that Aika and JunJun placed above her because I really love them both. They're so cute and Aika's new hairstyle is so adorable on her.

I've had fairly crappy day today as I'm not feeling too good, my eyes are hurting just staring at the screen and my stomach isn't too good either, I had hoped to finish of this post and get the results up for the countries by this evening but it doesn't look like I'm going to get a chance to do it, I'll do my best to get them up but chances I'll be asleep in 10-15mins. With the next post I'm also thinking I may attempt to have a look at a couple of other things as well; Strawberries comment has got me thinking as to how guys and girls are voting differently, so I'm going to try and look at this, lol mainly in the hope to see if Koha raises up a few notches. I'll have a look at altering the points awarded to Berryz and C-ute to something similar to what Garamon suggests and that it may be possible to compare the popularity between all the groups...but I think that because the votes for Morning Musume greatly outweighed that of both Berryz and C-ute it may be better to compare the results of just the two of them together. And to answer Garamon's comment about the points being unfair to Berryz and C-ute, I done them that way because it was following the standard of the amount of members within the unit is the top point awarded, I think that if you make it 9 and then omit numbers it would increase the gaps and give an unfair impression of how popular/unpopular certain members are. C-ute is a good example, with the Maimi and Airi being in the lead by quite a bit if they were awarded the 9 and 8 and then 7 was ommited that gap would be much larger than it is now and in my eyes would give the wrong impression as it would imply that they are more liked than they actually are.
Wahashimoto, originally I was also going to include an option to order the groups into order of preference, I forget why I didn't include it...I think it was something stupid that I couldn't get it to look right, and then I had the idea that you might be able to measure the popularity of the groups by the amount of votes they received, it's a flawed idea I know, but it's something I'll make sure to do on the next poll I do. I'm still working on the 'Rank every current member of H!P' poll and may include a 'Rank every group/solo artist' as well, but I'm still having problems with layout and the generated graphic at the end, let alone on how the system would work, currently it works that you have to rank every member, but I think this is going to be unfair to certain members as some people may not have a preference or even know all the members within H!P and so getting towards the lower half the results may not be true, if you see what I mean?
Rad, lol the University of Wota, they would have a great selection of courses! The whole age sex thing from the results is I think the most interesting aspect out of everything, I know from the amount of blogs out there that the community is really mixed but I was sure that the majority of the fanbase would be male and even we presume that the entire lot of people who didn't submit their gender was male it still wouldn't be enough to push the male fan base into the lead. I'm really curious to know what the Japanese would think of the results of this poll and the fact that foreign fanbase is more female than male, well at least from what these results show. I'm hoping that a Japanese fan will comment on the results as it would be really interesting to see their reactions to it, I know that Witch Hunting Girlscouts linked to the post yesterday and it's certainly recieved a lot of hits from Japanese users, but unfortunatly as yet no comments, damn this language barrier.
Kuri, it does look like that UFA are pushing the right girls to the front with Berryz and C-ute, but it does make me wonder though are they popular just because UFA push them to them front? Although I guess the whole Koha thing disproves that though. Good thing is though if that's the case shouldn't be too long before we see an Erichan PB!
MornngBerryz, I'm glad I'm not the only one rating Nakki highly within Athena & Robikerottsu, although I love everyone else within the unit she really stands out the most. I will eventually get around to ordering her custom concert PB release off of Ohta sometime in the week. But her positioning was a real shock, so low! As for Koha's low rankings I'm just as shocked, but much like you and Eri I'm generally always biased towards her. Lol, glad you liked the pie charts I just chucked them in to try and break up the text and make the results a little easier to see without having to read the whole post, I was worried that they may have been a little over the top? Obviously UFA will focus on the members that make them the most money, but it would be great if they were to focus their attention on some of the other girls, as you say time will tell.
Gummi, thanks for posting the link, it's interesting to see that they span such a wide and varied audience and that the male fanbase seems is only in the lead in the middle, with the younger and older votes being mainly from females. I'll have a go and see if I can create a similar sort of graph and put it in my next post.
I am weak in uk, I was reading about this new unit just last night, another Kiran Revolution unit sounds good to me, lol, although I imagine this won't please everyone. Are the two other members in the possible unit both Eggs?? Talking of Eggs...Manoeri graduating from Ongaku Gatas...going solo!? Amazing news!

I'm very much a 'say what you want' type of person but let's try and not attack each other, let's keep it friendly. omom, I understand where you're coming from, but at the end of the day he is a friend, it's just our views of acceptability differ, but as you say at the end of the day it is my site and it's up to me what stays and what goes.
SPAM will be gone as soon as I see it, but anything else as long as it's semi constructive whether on topic or not (within reason) generally will always stay. Koharu really shouldn't be receiving so much fame! I'm sorry paul, you being a koharu fan but she sounds HORRIBLE in live concerts and that clearly shows she doesn't have a lot of talent in that area. I can understand reina and ai's lead roles but koharu shouldnt be getting so many leads in the new single. It's getting very annoying. She doesn't do a very good job at it.
I realllyyy hope Koharu graduates this year. I don't like seeing her in Morning Musume. Better off solo.

I can totally understand where you're coming from, Koha has been getting a lot of attention lately, personally I'm pleased as I'm a fan it's good to see more of her, but especially with Resonant Blue it would have been great to see some mof the members playing a part, but then I'd say the same could be said about Aichan and Reina in this PV.
I love her voice and although with the odd concert performance it looks like she may have been lip-syncing, like when she sand Chance! in the recent Concert Tour 2007 Aki Bon Kyu! Bon Kyu! Bomb lol when she finishes the song she says something but nothing comes out, someone really should of turned on her mic, but she still puts on a good performance.
As for graduating and going solo, I'd hate to see that, I hope she stays within Morning Musume for quite sometime, she's got a great perosnality, granted it's slightly crazy but I think she adds so much to the unit

Risa- I'm so happy that she's so popular. Maybe she can be Cinderella, or the prince, or something. Her voice is amazing. Her fashion sense is probably the best in Momusu. As, the Reaction Queen, I thought she might have lost some popularity since Haromoni doesn't really allow their personalities to come out as much as Hello Morning did.

Kamei- I've really started to like her recently. I first noticed how gorgeous she is in the 2007 Bon Kyu Bomb Concert. She's very cute, and she has a sweet voice, although not as consistant as Ai's, Risa's, or Reina's (and from what I've heard, LinLin's) That ten second counting thing on Haromoni is really what made me really love her.

Ai- About a year ago, I couldn't stand her at all. I've really grown to like her voice, though. I started liking her personality when I saw that clip where she didn't want to tear a prawn in half. Also, has anyone else noticed that almost all of the girls' voices have gotten a lot better after she became leader. It's like, with Yossie, they all seemed to get more fit.

Reina- I kind of thought she would be higher, but I'm not really surprised. I like her. She's cute and she has a cute voice, but that's pretty much all I think of her. I can understand why she would be a favorite to a lot people, though. Plus, her photobooks are amazing.

Sayu!!!!!!- I love her. I love her! I love her!! Well, she's my favorite, so of course I want her to be everyone's favorite. But it's ok, because she's number 5 for the sole reason that she could be in the middle of that picture ranking the Momusus. I'm happy she's been in the middle of a lot of the group pictures lately (not just the one on this page). She's so cute, and she's very funny. I like her voice, it's so hypnotic, and now it's on pitch almost all of the time. I don't care what other people say, no one can beat Sayu in a cute dance, no, not even Ai-chan. Probably in something like Iroppoi Jirettai, but in any of the cutesy Rainbow dances, she owns, and you know it! I think she might have lost some of her fanbase because she's presenting herself as a little more mature than before, but that's really just her hairstyle. I hope that "help me" line is in all of the TV performances. And since she is the cutest member of Morning Musume, it's ok if she claims it. ^-^

JunJun- Ah, the little monkey. I've liked her since I first saw that Super Girl clip. I've liked her personality since she stole that banana racket. I'm so happy that Tsunku actually chose someone older. I think he should do that a little more often. It worked so well this time.

Mitsui- She is the cutest little thing. I didn't think I would like her. I never thought she would be chosen to be in Morning Musume, but she's definately shot up on my favorites list. I never rooted for her during the auditions, but I fell in love with her when she walked into the room with Momusu and smiled as she walked over the them so timidly when she was first chosen. She's also a really good dancer. I didnt' think she would be, but in Resonant Blue, her dancing rivaled Ai-chan's. Really, look for yourself. Also, although slowly, she's getting better in lives. The A&R performance was so cute and it was live. Also, I love her haircut, I want to see it styled like Mako's was in Souda! We're Alive, which reminds me; I wonder if her or Koharu with be changing their hair color, since their now in highschool and can dye their hair.

Koha- Personally, I can't stand her in Momusu. She gets too many lines. She promotes herself whenever she can. She's center too much, which would be ok if she could dance. However, I like her in her solo PV's. But, I'm not really sure if I like her, or just the song. I'll give her the benefit and say I like her as Kirari. She's not particularly growing on me, but she is getting slightly less annoying. She's the only member of Momusu that I don't like.

LinLin- she is just a little firecracker. She should sing Senkou Hanabi as a solo. She's a good dancer and good singer (I didn't like her voice at first, but I've come to enjoy it). Her performances are consistant. She's seems to have a cute personality, but that's just it. Her personality isn't really coming out. I absolutely love that Aiin~ performance with her Eri, JunJun, and Maasa. I love that part where she crossed her eyes.

For Berryz, im happy momo got 1st, she is my favorite in berryz and because same with Gakisan she never gets first with the Jap fans. i guess Buono! really helped!
In C-ute, Chisato is my FAVORITE so i was kind of shocked she came in pretty low.... But its amazing how Ume-san(erika) came up to be 3rd. you could never see that for japanese rankings. i like ume-san from the "Tension Age Ko" from the Houkago concert

I'm sorry you missed the poll, but they'll be another one at some point, I'm still in the middle of doing a whole H!P ranking, it's so much harder than I had originally thought it's quite difficult to come up with an easy to use approach to it, but I think I'm getting there, so when I get it up you'll be able to participate in that one :)
Your comments about the difference between our faves and the Japanese faves are really interesting, I would have loved for there to have been more Japanese votes as we could split the results in two and compare them in detail, maybe next time, just a matter of trying to figure out how to attract Japanese fans to english language site I guess.
I'm still really pleased that Gakisan made it to the top of Morning Musume, but I'm still really sad about Koha's.
Buono, for me at least, has been the main factor why I personally ranked Momo so highly (2nd) if Buono hadn't of been around she would of probably appeared a lot lower, perhaps even in the bottom 2? The same affect is happneing with Airi at the moment, she really wowed me in the last Buono PV.

Oh... Gaki san is 1st!!!! I'm really happy! I love her from the 1st PV of MOrning musume that i've seen^^________^^ And That " Miracle _ Koharu " is 8th... I hate her so much so hearing her got 8th really made my day. She is lack of singing but she is always in the center of recent released Morning musume's new PVs .. Like Mikan, Onna ni sachi are, and expecialy Resonant blue ... she is really annoying!!!!!!! And I think Gaki, Eri and SAyumi is not given a lot of lines because of her. miyo, I keep saying that I'll have another poll out soon, but unfortunatly it always keep getting pushed back, I'm hoping I'll get it completed soon, the plan is to do a whole of H!P poll, problem I'm having at the moment is doing something that's easy to use, with so many members it get's a little cluttered.
hang, it was really good to see Gaki appear at the top spot, she's such a great personality and her smile still makes my day when ever i see it. Koha is a strange one there doesn't seem to be any middle field with her, people love or hate her, admittdly the like of Kamei, Gaki and Sayu didn't get that many lines within Resonant Blue, but when you think about Kohachan didn't really have that many lines either it was all really Aichan and Reina, lol look at me deflecting it. In all honesty I really find it amazing that people have issues with members of H!P I have favourites within the groups and I obviously have a least favourite, but that doesn't mean I don't like them and this for me is what makes the whole poll thing so difficult, to me every member within the units plays a vital role and without them the group loses something...well at least for awhile until they're replaced of I'm used to their absense.

as i thought koha-chan ranked second last in this pool and the girls who in top 5 was the 5th and 6th gen... fans actually like momusu from 1st until 6th gen.. before koha-chan debut, i always thought that koha-chan maybe had a great voice or something else but i totally wrong... after she debut i started to hate her. i don't know why tsunku choosed her as a winner of 7th gen.

I don't think Kohochan is unpopular cause of her being forced on people, i think it has more to do with her singing. While she does pretty well on her solo songs, she really doesn't seem to fit in well when singing with Morning Musume. I think the kinds of songs they sing just aren't suited for her voice. I think she'll graduate soon and go solo.
