Mikitty's Okitegami Preveiw
Friday, 7th March 2008 02:14
So
Mikitty is back and with a solo single planned already things are looking up for her. It's good to see that she has actually come back into H!P and is performing, although I'm curious as to whether she's still dating whoever it was she was dating, I guess it's something we'll never know unless the media decide to start digging around...or Mikitty decides to go and buy some Wii games again.
:::Dohhh Up!::: have put a short preview clip of Mikitty's single and after watching it I have to say I'm not entierly sure what to think of it.
She look uncomfortable throughout the majority of the performance, the outfit is strange and doesn't really suit her, the actual quality of the clip isn't too great and then there's the song itself. It just doesn't seem to fit together. It's Mikitty, but not as we know her.
I've learnt my lesson from the comments I made about
Buono!'s first single, when :::Dohhh Up!::: put up a clip of a live performance from a shopping center, how I ate my words when I heard and saw the PV, so I don't want to jump in and start saying how I dislike it, but...I don't like it, lol, but please don't hold me to that, chances are when I hear a decent version of it I'll be a fan. It just doesn't suit her, to me it looks like
UFA have looked at the whole Mikitty situation and thought to themselves "This will put her in her place", it's not exactly the kind of song you'd hope for for your return on the H!P scene now is it? I may be wrong and this may be the style that she wants to go with, but for me it's kind of a disappointing return song, but at least it's a return.
From what I understand about the release, the single will also be released by
Takao Horiuchi at the same time in a sort of battle to see who can sell more copies. When I look at it this way it makes the return slightly more exciting, but I still can't really understand why they went with this release. I'm curious to see what her next release will be.

Comment by Ken on Friday, 7th March 2008 06:23Is this an original song? That piano melody at the beginning sounds very familiar. Reminds me of 80s Cantonese/Hong Kong pop. I do like the song, but I'm still not keen on Fujimoto Miki...
Comment by Zeeny on Friday, 7th March 2008 17:27I was disappointed by the song. But i guess until we see a PV we should give it a fair shot...I still have doubts.
Comment by Radicalpatriot on Friday, 7th March 2008 17:52It's only fair to wait until the full single is rolled out, but it's just to slow and too mushy. If Miki really wants to come back, it should be with a bang. But then again whenever she has soloed in the past it's always been with some kind of ballad.
I don't recall your Buono! first-single reaction, but I thought from the start they would be explosive, and a power-rock theme has unfolded with the ensuing album.
What Miki needs is another "Boggie Train" song, along those lines.
Comment by Arashi on Friday, 7th March 2008 19:33You know, when I first heard about this single I was also thinking it was something of a penalty release. I haven't heard it yet myself.
I wonder what the future holds for Mikitty.
Comment by John on Friday, 7th March 2008 20:07I actually really like it. It's only natural that she look uncomfortable, seeing as how she's at a press confrence of some sort being blinded by camera flashes.
Comment by silenceglaive on Friday, 7th March 2008 20:35I like the song, and I wonder why everybody keeps pointing out that she was uncomfy .... okay the dress was O_o .. but as she sang she was imho in her element. The biggest question is if she will stay soely relying on such songs or she'd do more varying stuff ...
Comment by paul.thomas on Saturday, 8th March 2008 18:52Ken, no idea if it's a cover or not, I haven't heard any mention of it being a cover anywhere though.
Zeeny, you're right it's all about waiting until the PV is out so we can have a proper listen to it. When I first heard that Buono! was forming I wasn't impressed, at the time I wasn't a big Momo or Airi fan so the whole group itself wasn't something I wasn't overly excited about and then they released that clip at the shopping mall, I think my comments were something along the lines of 'not impressed' but then when the PV came out I loved it. Rad, I was really expecting something similar to Boogie Train or at least something of that sort of tempo...but then I guess we don't know what sort of market she's going for now.
Arashi, that's exactly what I thought when I heard this clip, but it can't be can it?
John, but she should be used to such situations shouldn't she? But then this might be her official appearance since she's come back, so I guess that might explain it as well.
silenceglaive, that's the thing isn't it, is she going to carry on singing similar songs? Honestly, I really hope she doesn't, but then I seem to be stuck in this whole negative mood about this release at the moment, I'll probably love it when it comes out.
Comment by zaitoto on Saturday, 8th March 2008 23:35this is mikitty's real punishment.
Comment by momo on Saturday, 8th March 2008 23:42what punishment? please explain why you think it's a punishment? Lets not jump the gun here, ok?
Comment by BladeMaster on Sunday, 9th March 2008 03:28Miki will be fine coming back. She's like one of the best singers out of H!P. To be honest, her styles doesn't suit the new group of MoMusu anyway. It's time for her to go solo; or back to GAM if possible.
Comment by Nozofan on Monday, 10th March 2008 22:32I don't really think it's so bad. Mikitty's voice is real good and this song is great. I was expecting something else, but it's ok. But i have to say taht I hope she will do something more like boogie train next time !
Comment by Matthew on Monday, 24th March 2008 11:20I think this single is going to be good. I love Enka/Ancient Japanese sounds, and what I read on Wiki Theppn, when she was little, she wanted to be an Enka singer cause of her Grandma's love for Enka music. By what I heard of the song, It sounded great. I'm gonna freak when I hear all of it, lols <3
We need another Enka singer in H!P anyway...Maeda Yuki is great, but another singer in that genre wouldn't be so bad...maybe her and Maeda could do a duet, now that they're in the same label (Rice music) together!
Comment by gagaku on Tuesday, 25th March 2008 04:17Matthew, i think you like the pentatonic scale of japanese music. very admirable. enka was developed after world war 2, but the pentatonic scale has been around since the 7th century in the form of gagaku.
