Kindai June 2008
Sunday, 18th May 2008 14:23
Today I'm going to try and catch up with some magazine posts that I've been meaning to put up, first up is the June issue of
Kindai and after hopefully will be the latest issue of
BLT U-17.
I can't thank Cerbc enough for doing the translations for these articles, he's done such an amazing job with them! It's great being able to read these articles.
I especially enjoyed the
MilkyWay article, it's great to see the relationship that has built with all the members and it's something that I've started noticing in concert performances with
Koha and that's how she interacts really well with
H!P Egg members, I know a lot of people don't like her because she gets a lot of attention over other members but this is something that I think can work in the advantage of some of the younger H!P members as she's a great role model for them to look up to and it seems that they do get on well with her.
Another interesting thing about this interview is
Kikka's wish of "I'd like that people across the world could know about us", I always wonder if the H!P girls no that there they do have a global fan base?
Talk about many colours (iroiro iro no o-hanashi)
Morning Musume keep on changing and evolving even further, while passing through a Memorial Year for their tenth anniversary. Their 36th single, their first one in 2008, is called "Resonant Blue".
This new song is a kakkoi-ish danceable number that may let Morning Musume be reaffirmed as a female vocal group. And their concert tour, where they'll sing all of their singles, is a must-see!
A question about colours. Which do you live the most?
Ai: Red!
Risa: Green!
Kamei: Yellow
Shige: Pink!
Tanaka: Pink!
Kusumi: Red!
Aika: Black!
Junjun: Red!
Linlin: Red!
Well then, let us hear a "little story" related to your favourite colour.
Ai: As for me, when talking about fashion, I always come up with a red whenever I think of a "best point". I made my pumps red, and made my bag red. I even use to buy red accesories quite often.
Risa: As for me, my jerseys (dancing suit), are mostly green. Although my daily clothes are of orthodox colours only, my jerseys are whether light green or dark green. When picking jerseys my hand always picks the green ones.
Kamei: As for me, I get told "Happiness looks watery/light coloured for you" a lot (laughs). Dark colours have fitted me, but, if I tried light colours in my daily clothes, like yellow, I think they would ake me look brithger, so I think it's a good colour (yellow one).
I guess it's quite a "lucky colour", don't you think?
Shige: I've liked pink since long ago,
Whenever I'm trying to choose accesories I want to wear on my body, I always end up grabbing the pink ones for some reason.
So, since there's not a particular reason for me to like pink, it's very hard for me to try to explain it (put in words), but, pink is essential. So I am glad for the existence of pink. (laugh)
Tanaka: One day I went to a store of westerner clothes, and all of a sudden I noticed that pink and black matched there, so it captured me. (On daily dressing), although black is still my number one colour, whenever I feel like adding a colour I always add pink.
Kusumi: my Morning Musume concert t-shirt is red. It's also the colour that fan watched on me, so I think the red colour makes me feel more positive in my enthusiasm.
Mitsui: I also like matching black and pink, so I have lots of black clothes. Then, there is the fact that my eye pupils are completely black. The black colour makes you feel green, isn't it? (by green she means the vegetal nature)
Junjun: My favourite flower is Higan-bana (Cluster Amarylis, spider lily), which blooms red flowers but, when it's blooming it has no leaves, when it has leaves it has no flowers. They never appear at the same time. Besides, its flowers are not of good luck. Because this flowers bloom near to tombs, there's even a legend that says that they will bloom around your tomb after you die. But even like that, I love these flowers.
Linlin: Santa-san weirs a red outfit. Because of that, when I see something red I feel like I'm gonna get very lucky. And then, because the day I wear red pants becomes a "lucky day" (laugh).
Morning Musume's 36th single is called "Resonant Blue". This "Blue", what kind of "blue" is it?
Niigaki: It's like a refreshing blue, isn't it?
Kamei: A blue that is resonant in harmony with the sorrow. Sort of like the indigo blue.
Niigaki: More than a clearly beautiful blue, a deep blue.
Kusumi: Deep sea blue.
Mitsui: One that seems shark-infested. (Laugh)
Kamei: But, the melody is kakkoi, isn't it? It feels strong I mean, I think it has that kind of "blue" as well.
What's the impression you got when first sang it?
Kamei: I think Morning Musume has an image of being Kawaii (heart-breakingly cute), Genki(healthy + cheerful) and Powerful, but this time, we have changed the colour so it's become a lot more kakkoii (cool and elegant).
Junjun: I thought that the best thing of the song was that it gives you feeling of sadness, but also gives you feelings of beauty within that sadness.
Risa: About this, at the beginning, we all together listened to it! Then, we also said to each other "Isn't this good!". We wanted to sing it by ourselves right away and, make and dance a choreography for it right away. This song really incredibly clicked with us.
Tanaka: As for me (she's not calling herself Reina), I've been saying that my favourite song was my debut single "Shabondama" until now. But this year has appeared a song that I like almost to the same extent.
Ai: But at time of recording it was really troublesome. There were like 10 "bataaan" sounds, and sounds that got covered though, so I listened to all of them one by one, and then recorded with them in mind. I think this quality is higher than any high quality seen so far.
Kamei: I think than the dance is also a dance like nothing before. It was tough.
Shige: It was really hard.
Tanaka: Go-makasenai (I can't copy it) (Laugh).
Kamei: That's why, by starting over from rhythm count, we had to begin from the very basic. And then the dancing level increased a lot.
With "Resonant Blue", Morning Musume has evolved once again, right?
Tanaka: We have, isn't it?
Ai-chan: I guess so..., No! We have!
How about the PV?
Ai: In direct proportion to the trouble as it gave us, the Dance scene became a main part of the PV, but ourselves are so Kakkoii in there to the point I thought "Ohh!!". The costumes are "monotone", and the Make-up is adult-like. Per contra, there's really no kawaiiness at all.
Shige: For this new single we have left it all and embrace a new feeling. Because it shows a Kakkoiness that is different to whatever seen so far, and there's a lot of "fake". Plus, because it shows Sexy-ness as well. I think that a Morning Musume that is only kawaii will get stuck. And I want people to watch these new nine persons.
You are going to make people move in a live version of "Resonant Blue" for your concert tour called "Morning Musume Concert Tour 2008 Spring - All singles-" (now is april 23) This concert will be like for you like going back through the halfway point/best of your career. This Concert Tour is going to be like very cool isn't it?
Niigaki: We'll sing all 36 singles there, and will add the new song.
But what about your physical resistance?
All members: Hahahahaha (laugh).
Kusumi: Honestly, I think will be completely able. Isn't it the first time in history (that this is going to happen, 36 singles in a row).
Niigaki: It's probably the first time.
Shige: (At rehearsal) We started from listening again to the old songs very closely. And since they were the songs I saw Morning Musume perform on TV, or the songs that made me really like Morning Musume, a lot of memories arose.
Kamei: Yes. But, 36 songs, are a lot. (Laugh)
For the 8th generation, has it been difficult in anyway to memorize so much?
Mitssi: Indeed. To the extent I had to dance while watching the PVs, and my sempais had to showed me how to dance them. It was really difficult.
Kamei: But, she (8th gen) just came in, so I think it's amazing that she (8th gen)'s says "I'll do this live". If I were in the same position 8th gen is, I'd be about to fly into a rage.
Mitsii: Because you would have to memorize them at a breath.
Niigaki: Enough with the scary stuff ok? (Laugh)
Well, you'll sing the whole 36 singles this time, so please tell which songs made you think once again: "Ah what a good song this is...".
Linlin: I like "I wish" very much. "Jinsei tte subarashii (life is surprising)
hora dare to deattari, koi wo shite mitari (hey, cause it allows me to meet you, to fall in love), everytimes I sing this, while singing it, if I open my eyes, find myself surrounded by everyone. We all together will do our best. It brings me out to me homely warm feelings. I like it a lot.
Junjun: Mine would be "As for one day". In the concert Michishige-san will sing at first, and I like the mood she created. I cried.
Michishige: You cried!?
Junjun: Yeah. I got to like it a lot.
Mitssi: (In the concert) "Koko ni Iruzee" is going to show up with the most strengh when we are the most tired, and it's going to be really fun 'cause we will be screaming and making eye-contact with the public.
It made me understand that, when people is smiling at me, if I can share my own smile with each one of them, even if it's tough I can endure it and keep lively, so it made me think "This song is so good..."
Kusumi: To me is "Mikan". Lyrics are really so positive, and in the Live it's very wild and tiring for me, but all the toughness dissappears because of the lyrics. I love that, mostly.
Tanaka: "Shabondama" is a song that really sets every stage on fire, but the one that has made say again this time is "Oosaka koi no uta". I really like its choreography!. I thought once again: "It's so hard but so Kakkoii".
Michishige: To me is "Aruiteru". This song made me realize "This is Morning Musume".
We'll sing "Hitori janai kara, minna ga iru kara (because you are not alone, everybody is here) to finish the concerts, but then, at the peak of the concert Aruiteru arrives and when I pay a look to the other members I was able to realize that they were saying "Minna ga iru kara, watashi wa gambareru nda na" (because everybody is here, I'll do my best). Then I noticed it was a very dear song.
Kamei: I choose "I wish" as well. In the live, there's going to be a "staging" that is just like the cosmovision I imagined. I like it the way the song comes alive after the "high point", it made me think again "This song feels good" after I sang it.
Risa: This time I'm singing "Manatasu no Kousen". It has an arrangement that makes you feel the summer, so it's a song I've liked since long time ago, but the concert version, made me think "Just as I thought, I like this song".
Aichan: I guess to me is "Morning Musume no Hyokkori Hyoutanjima".
Tanaka: I didn't expect that...
Shige: Furthermore, Ai-chan won't be there (laugh).
Ai: But, as much as I won't be on that song, I'll be able to watch it objectively. I'll be in the Adult Team, and this song will be performed by the Children Team (Kusumi-Mitssi-Junjun-Linlin).
Junjun: I am a child?
Takahashi: You are not a child (laugh). But, I have remembered a lot of things and thought "I used to sing a song this fun".
We asked Morning Musume!! What words make you inmediately think about the colours blue, red and white?
| Name | Blue | Red | White |
|---|
| Ai | Sanma-san | Strawberry | White |
| Risa | Sky | Heart | Cloud |
| Eri | Five-toed socks | Strawberry | T-shirt |
| Sayu | Blueback fish | Sun | Snow |
| Reina | Ocean | Tomato | Cloud |
| Kusumi | Blue feelings | Passion/enthusiasm | Wall |
| Mitssi | Hawaii | Post | Tofu |
| Junjun | Sad | Spider Lily | Wall |
| Linlin | Bagel | Apple | Snow |
"Milky way", that in japanese means "Amanogawa", what kind of unit is it?
Kusumi: This unit, formed by Kikkawa Yuu-Chan and Kitahara Sayahara, gathers girls who have completely different "characters". By the way their nicknames (adana) are kikka (kikkawa) and Saaya (sayahara). I can't remember if I am "koharun", or "koharin" though.(laugh)
Kitahara: It's "koharin".
Kusumi: We have become this friendly among us.
Were you nervous at the time the unit was first formed?
Kitahara: I was, but then Kusumi-san is just so nice...
Kusumi: No, no, no.
Kitahara: Yes, really.
Kikkawa: We have learnt a lot of things from what she's shown to us.
Your debut single "Anataboshi" is a "number" that shares the same cheerful happiness of "Balalaika", isn't it?
Kusumi: Yes. It's like a folk song from some foreign country.
Kitahara: It surprised me when I first listened to it.
Kusumi: But I've heard it's a very "kirarin revolution"-like type of song.
Kikkawa: The lyrics are a story of love. I thought that lyrics like "hitori dake ja setsu nai kimochi mo, futari de nara wakeaeru, sannin nara senaka wo osarete, juuyou >>> aijou" were really good lyrics.
Kusumi: Then, this time we are using a headset and tambourines, I want that people really pay attention to them.
For the two of you (Kitahara, Kikkawa), I guess you are looking forward to the release date on April 30th since this is the first CD you have recorded.
Kikkawa: We are looking forward to it!
Kitahara: I've been asked about repercusions of this is my life.
Kusumi: When I find her in the middle of the street, she gets told "Oh! Noeru!" (laugh). That happens a lot. Like, when I'm riding the train and someone touches me and says, "Hey, aren't you kirari-chan???" and I am like "what should I do, what should I do?" (laugh). If I am walking around the city and find a poster, I say "Ah... that's me...". I think this kind of things are happening now to both of them too.
Since you are the leader of Milky way Koharu-chan, would you mind giving a message for the readers of Kindai?
Kusumi: It will be three years between the start of the anime "Kirarin Revolution" and this song. This is a new song, and the anime is going through an evolution, so please, without fail, watch the anime, remember the song and let's sing and dance it with the tambourine together in the concerts and "events".
Well, a last question. In relation to the words "Milky way" (amanogawa), if you could ask a wish that will definitely come true, what wish would you ask?
Kusumi: "To be able to have fun days everyday". But I think that with a smile and a positive attitude, everyday is fun day.
Kikkawa: "I'd like many people to get to know "Milky way". I'd like that people across the world could know about us.
Kitahara: "I want any wish that I ask to come true", this is something I've been thinking since I was little. Don't you think it's the best wish? (laugh)
The lyrics Kikkawa talks about mean:
"By myself I feel wistful. If we are two, I am able to share these feelings. If we are three I get pushed on my back (to move on). Friendship >>> Affective Love"
CUTE HOUSE VOL.07 FROM CHISATO OKAI
This popular series presents latest news, featuring one member of C-ute, that is releasing its 5th single "Namida no Iro (Color of tears)" on April 23th. Chisato Okai, the "healthy daughter" in C-ute, appears in this 7th part of the series. Will this be by any chance the last part?
You went to a place as far as the KDDI stadium miyagi to support the Touhoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.
"Yes. They were kind enough to allow us to sing, "Let's cross over, Rakuten eagles", which is our cheer song.
Was this your first time attending a pro baseball game?
"I watch games. In the past I used to go a lot to watch the games".
You went to baseball stadiums?
"Yes. But then, I was too little so it wasn't so interesting (laugh). I liked it every time a ball got caught or the Mascot Character showed up. But this time watching the game was really fun and very exciting. So I thought I'd like to watch a game again and that I wanted to support Rakuten Eagles."
By the way, what's your favourite sport? What sport are you good at?
"I like ball games, like futsal, basketball, baseball or softball. I am good at..."
School marathon?
"In elementary school I was first place, but then in middle school I became third place".
You mean place at competing with the entire school?
"Yes. I was second place in first grade then first in second grande. (The partners of her same grade) They did athletics and were very fast!
No, I think you were awesome by getting third place for being a non-club student. Don't you think so?"
(Chisa is good at marathon) "Well, then... (laugh)"
Good. At april 23th the single "Namida no iro (colour of the tears) (upfront works/zetima) shall be released. What kind of a song is it?
"It's a very maturish one. It's a kakkoi song but its lyrics are very sad, so it was hard to make facial expressions while singing it. "Tokaikko Junjou" has become also, from my point of view, a maturish song."
The single coupling is called "Darling I LOVE YOU (C-ute version). I found it interesting when I tried to compare this song with "Darling I LOVE YOU (Berryz version)", which is the coupling of Berryz Koubou's single "Genghis Khan".
"Yes, it is. About "Darling I LOVE YOU" by Berryz, C-ute has covered it. But this new C-ute's version has different lyrics and Berryz is also present in the cover. The song is sweet and I like the lyrics as well.
"Namida no iro" and "Darling I LOVE YOU" will appear in the "Berryz koubou and C-ute friendly battle concert tour 2008 spring - Berryz Kamen versus Cutie Rangers-". So, please let us see the enthusiasm for the Concert tour.
"After long time there is a Concert in which only Berryz Koubou and C-ute will be performing. Berryz Koubou is our rival in a good sense. In concert we burn in combativeness, but at the same time we perform as friends and have fun. Although Berryz Koubou and C-ute are an unusual combination, I think I'd like to see both of them grow a lot. And since my little sister is going to be among the haroproegg members, I want to do my best to not fail as a sempai."
Your sister (Asuna), does she resemble to you?
"My little sister is very feminine, she has very mature face, long hair, I don't think she resembles to me. Even in height she's already surpassed me (laugh)."
But furthermore, your sister won't be on stage.
"That's right. She'll be one year older on the day of the concert in Yokohama Arena (april 20th). She's very cute, she's recovering really fast!
Are you having troubles at taking care of her?
Yes. I am not having too much free time lately, so my brother is taking care of her for me. (Between her brother and her older sister) she likes more his brother. When I want to hold her in my arms I have to look at him and hold out my hand. (laugh) So I think I'll take care of her with things like westerner clothes or toys (laugh).

Comment by Strawberrie on Sunday, 18th May 2008 18:20Thanks for posting the magazine articles. I always wanted to purchase some magazines but the only Japanese I'll be reading over the summer is my summer homework they gave for JPN 203. :(
Comment by Nozofan on Sunday, 18th May 2008 19:54Thank you ! I really enjoy reading this =D
Comment by Chris on Monday, 19th May 2008 02:30Please send a big Thank You Cerb's way from me too! I love getting an opportunity to read this stuff. And memo to Kikka...We're here! Now maybe she could recommend some "English Subs" on more of their material. This learning Japanese stuff is hard! I've been teaching myself for 8 months, and still barely understand!
Comment by Shirow on Monday, 19th May 2008 07:07Wow, I really did enjoy reading those articles, I cannot wait to see the MM concert when they peform all the singles, Ive already heard the audio so I know its gonna be awesome.
Also I thought it was cool that Kikkawa mentioned about having an international fanbase ... if only she could see me banging away with my magic tamborine in merry olde England ...
Big thanks to Cerb for the great translation!
Bravo
Comment by BladeMaster on Monday, 19th May 2008 11:17Thank you for doing the translation. We can understand the idols better if we know what they're talking about. The language thing is getting to me, since I buy the MM-related DVDs but have big trouble understanding.
Comment by MorningBerryz on Tuesday, 20th May 2008 01:40It was so wonderful to read all of these articles! Thank you for all of your hard work typing so much!! It's so amazing that Momusu is going to perform all of their singles in a row in concert!!! That's going to be so amazing!!! I loved it when Jun Jun questioned Aichan about being referred to as a 'child'... ^-^ and what a surprising song for Aichan to choose....I'm really surprised!
Comment by paul.thomas on Wednesday, 21st May 2008 12:17Strawberrie, that doesn't sound like fun...I've never been a big fan of homework, but on saying that I'm making progress with the Japanese I want to make sure I've got all the characters nailed down and then I'll start on the questions.
Chris, I'm having similar problems with the language, but I think my main problem is I start and stop and whenever I get back into the swing of it again I always have to start right at the beginning again, I'm hoping this time around I can keep it up.
Shirow, the all single concert looks like it's going to be amazing, with so many great songs in there! I hope you've been following them tutorial videos on how to do the dance with it! Lol, when are we going to see a video clip of you dancing along ;p
Blademaster, it's always great to have more of an insight into our favourite members and these magazine articles are always a great read and show us a little more about the them.
MorningBerryz, I had a good laugh at that comment as well, but I think the thing that made me laugh the most throughout all the artices is the Kamei's choice for what the colour blue reminds her of ,"five toed socks", lol I have no idea where that would be in my list of things that remind of blue, but it's a safe bet it wouldn't be in the top 10.
