Hello!Blog Server Move

Sunday, 26th October 2008 01:39

I've been a little slow on the posts this week, 4 days since my last post, but it's not through a lack of wanting, I've got a ton of things I want to post about Sayumi's new PB, Manoeri's latest single, my thoughts on Ayaya, the new issue of Kindai and finally get up my my post about Yo Yo Girl Cop, but unfortunately I've been a little preoccupied. For sometime now the site has been running slow, it's been a bit up and down, some times it will be fine other times it will take an age to leave a comment or view a page. My hosting company has basically turned around and said that the site has outgrown the shared hosting that it's currently using (lol, with the amount of bandwidth the site uses I'm surprised they haven't raised this issue with me rather than the other way around). So I've gone and bought myself a server and have spent the past week and a bit setting it all up and testing it, tonight I've finally finished. So I now have to make the switch which is going to leave the site down for awhile, from what I understand a maximum of 72 hours (fingers crossed it won't be anywhere near as long).
So in short the site will be down but it will be back up...and fingers crossed if everything goes smoothly a post or two as well ;p

Well everything's been moved up and things seem to be running quicker, if anyone has any problems let me know, but fingers crossed it's all gone smoothly.

Yay! Hello! Blog has been very slow these past few days, sometimes to the point where it just makes my computer lag. It's really fast now =] So it's making me very happy. From what I can see, everything's okay, so good job =]

Kazuro, glad that it's all working for you, I was dreading the site coming back up and stumbling across an overlooked bug or forgetting to copy something across, but it's looking good.
Quite a few people had been telling me they were having problems with the site loading time and it was becoming a pain for me as well as things were just getting so slow, so I'm really pleased to hear that you've already noticed the difference :)

Shirow, yep I got your mail, luckily it came in before i switched the mail over, I've just mailed you back. If you notice anything with the site let me know but I'm hoping I've fixed what problems there was.

Crap! Found a problem with the Radio.Blog and in my attempt to fix it I just made it worse :S so if anyone was planning on listening to it they'll have to hold out for awhile whilst I fix it, hopefully shouldn't be too long.

Fixed, phew!
Has anyone had any troubles accessing the site? Oddly I'm having a problem at home but everywhere else is fine, just wondering if I've got something odd set up at home or if anyone is having the same problem? Lol, but chances are if you can reply you're not having any problems.

If you're using an isp company (BT,SKY,NTL,TISCALI) DNS they could have a rubbish cache on it (one that only refreshes when it absolutely has too). Try using opendns and your problem should disappear.

I can get on just fine, sometimes an ISP's DNS cache isn't updated regularly as it should as Matt_D pointed out.

Go to opendns and put their 2 DNS IP addresses into your router, make sure you uncheck "get DNS automaticly" and manually put those IP addresses in there.

Do that and see if there is a difference

Well I've been using my server as the DNS and that's been working pretty well, I was just worried that perhaps I hadn't configured the zone for helloblog properly (wow, so geeky, lol) as this is the first time I've ever done anything like it, but it looks like my ISP's DNS has finally updated as it now seems to be working fine,,,phew!...Lol, I guess I should really buy a book instead of just jumping in, but where's the fun in that ;p
Hopefully no one else is having any similar problems.
