I've been oddly lazy with this release, I'm not entirely sure why I seem to remember my last comments about Manoeri were concerning her PB release and how I'd rather see a PV for one of her singles. Now that we have it's taken me a week (or two, I'm not to sure) to post about it, odd! Perhaps I've had too much Mano? Is that at all possible? Well recently it certainly does look like she's everywhere.
So, let's forget the song for the minute and concentrate on the PV as this is what I'm really most excited about.
With the style of music that she releases it was a safe bet that this wasn't going to be your standard H!P video. I have to say that my real worry with the PV was that although it wouldn't follow the usual PV route of close up, dance shot and random bits it would develop into a fairly boring affair where we just sit back and watch Manoeri play the piano. When I first watched the PV I wasn't overly impressed, essentially we have what I feared, Manori playing the piano, with the odd close up of her singing. But luckily there's that Mano charm that always seem to shine through when ever I see her. I have to admit to wondering what the appeal of her was, I loved her in Ongaku Gatas but recently I've felt slightly detached from her. I've loved the singles but her appeal outside of that has diminished, a sign of this is the fact that I haven't ordered her PB yet. But having sat down and re watched the PV my Mano-O-Meter is full and I so see her appeal, I'm even tempted to go and order her PB (lol, but that maybe because she has such a great bum more than anything else).
Although the PV isn't the most adventurous thing it's certainly entertaining, the bright colours really got me into it and the outfit changes throughout always kept me interested in Mano. What could of been something quite boring has been turned into a bright enjoyable watch.
The song itself follows along the same lines of the preview Indie singles with it focusing very heavily on the piano playing. But the really noticeable thing with this release is the difference in Mano's voice, comparing it to Manopiano you can hear how much better and stronger it is, it's great to see that she's progressed, but still kept that charm about her voice.
I'm still slightly uncertain as to who the target audience is for this release, it's not your standard H!P affair. I'm sure us fans will lap it up but outside of that I just don't know, with it being a more melow track I can imagine a whole older audience being into it, but then would the stigmata of H!P detract them from buying it? But at the end of the day does it matter? I have no doubt that this release will chart extremely high in the Oricon Charts, first off there's the promotion. Not necessarily of the single itself but all the appearance that Mano's been making on TV and in the magazines, she's certainly got to have grabbed people's attention. Secondly there's the amazing amount of versions of this release. Including the Single-V release that's a whopping 5 different versions to choose from. Along with the standard release we have three Limited Version, each of which come with a serial numbered card, but two of these version also come with added bonuses. The Limited A Edition comes with DVD and the Limited B Edition comes with a photobook. I'm sure everybody knows my feelings on the packaging and the features of Limited Releases by now, and that's I'm not overly keen on the DVDs, give me a casing or a photobook over a DVD. So with such a varied choice how can you go wrong? So can you imagine the amount of fans that are going to go out and buy each of the versions? Whether or not this is an intentional measure to make sure that the single high in the charts or it's a great celebration of Manoeri's début major release I can't say, but personally I'd love to think it's the later, but I'd imagine there's a little bit of the other in there as well. Certainly going from the covers alone I'd be tempted to buy a couple of the versions, Manoeri just looks great!
CD Release Date : 18 - 03 - 09 DVD Release Date : 25 - 03 - 09
Comment by Shadow on Thursday, 5th March 2009 09:40 Wow personally I loved this. It captavated be from the get go. I didn't really pay attention to the pv as I did the song. Truthfully I doubt I could tell you what happened in the PV, but I like to listen with my ears more than my eyes sometimes. I just wish it wasn't so expensive nowadays cause I would buy this CD. And Paul if you are going to go to L.A. for the Anima Expo please let me know cause i'm planning on going and we can split a room if you want.
Comment by Matt_D on Thursday, 5th March 2009 11:22 hmmm right well that one broke,
May get the version with the photobook as I'm sans photobook, darn she's great, she looks great, she has a great air about her when you see her on shows, her songs are lovely and serene, and her blog is sweet and touching. I can't fault her, other then I don't get enough of her even though she's everywhere.
If you're going to the Expo then the UK will be strong, it will be the first outing of the blue Reina boiler suit. If you're going you should see if there are still places in the Ritz Milner, it's only 0.4 miles from the event down a streight road. Course the place is a dump, an utter pit, but it's cheap and means I'll be able to recon the area so I can get my reserved ticket on the front row lol.
Comment by paul.thomas on Thursday, 5th March 2009 11:40 Shadow, I know what you mean and cerainly most of the time I listen to H!P it's with me ears rather than my eyes, but I really enjoy a good PV it can really add to the song if done properly, just like Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance, I love that song even more because of how amazing the PV is it for it.
As for LA I'm still deciding...I'm guessing I probably need to decide fairly soon, I'll certainly let you know if I do decide to attend.
Matt_D, I'm guessing you wrote a bit more nothing :S can't get access to the server at the moment...tell a lie can, 2secs....hmmmm, blank...I'll delete it :S
Lol, yep she certainly is everywhere at the moment and she even manages to make it onto the cover of the latest UTB, which is quite impressive considering how long it's been since a H!P member graced the cover...I wonder if this is the start of another H!P cover trend?
It would certainly be great to get out to LA and meet everyone up out there, still not to sure though. And as for the hotel, close by is good and as for whether it's a dump or not doesn't really bother me, all I essentially need is somewhere to sleep, as long as it has a bed it's fine by me lol.
I wonder how theyd expect us fans to be?
Comment by Matt_D on Thursday, 5th March 2009 12:56 Yeah, but it included a google map link, must have hated it.
Mano is unique, and I like that alot. Her manager has big plans for her, that's for sure. I really should watch tokyo shoujo.
That's my opinion on hotels lol.
To be honest I think alot of the "ahh we'll have no fans" vibe being put out by the girls is PR. With a few goals,
a - make more Japanese fans go to the states to support the girls.
b - make the fans who do go to AX even more determined to "put on a show"
c - allow the girls to act suprised when they encounter the fans in the states.
The only thing that'll sell out quick is hotel space, but then seems these American roach hotels don't care about too many people crashing in a room.
Comment by Cyndi on Thursday, 5th March 2009 15:57 Mano still scares the friggen hell out of me.. :/
Her eyes are .. entrancing. Like she'll draw you in ...........and eat you before you have a chance to say 'Manopiano'
.......................Or is that just me?
Comment by Morningtime on Thursday, 5th March 2009 18:53 I have Mano's pb and it's well worth getting. There's a great selection of outfits and settings and it's full of Mano's own special charm. Mine came earlier this week and fits nicely into my collection. :D
As for her solo work, well I love it. It's different to the usual H!P stuff but that's part of it's charm. Mano has something a bit different about her. It's partly her ability to play an instrument but there's more than that. Her personality, while being very sweet and happy, seems different. Maybe it's because I'm from the UK but to me she seems like she comes from a different type of background to the others. Either way I think sometimes one problem with H!P can be that all their music sounds, well if not the same then at least kind of similar. It's of a type. I like a lot of it but sometimes you can't really differentiate between Morning Musume, C-ute and Berryz. Mano is fresh. She has a completely different music style. It's great to see H!P branching out and trying something very different. While I do love Morning Musume, Ongaku Gatas, C-ute and so on I am also really happy to find an idol doing something completely different. I really hope there's room in the Japanese charts for Mano's kind of music.
As for the pv, I think for a first pv it does what it needs to do. It's full of Mano's cuteness and shows her playing the piano. It sets out who she is for the general public. I'd expect for later pv's we would get perhaps more of a storyline. I can't really see her doing in your face dance moves to the kind of music she normally gets. H!P will have to find new ways of doing pv's then. Not a bad thing.
Comment by Hexi on Thursday, 5th March 2009 19:47 i still don't know what to think of manoeri.
she's so..........
.... nothing special.
she woulsn't stand out in the street to me apart from "wow she's kinda cute" i'm not drawn to het voice. she looks like a load of other H!P members did that Lynx 3 advert thing (*poof*) which doesn't exactly shout "look at me, i've got a look no one else has" at me and she just seems a bit plain and bland to me.
mano piano was paiful to listen to. as was lucky aura (brain-grater anyone?)
despite all this i don't dislike her..... but i don't like her either. i nothing her.
i have no major opinion. i let it all wash past me.
Comment by ddrchik on Friday, 6th March 2009 07:09 the way they immediately put erina up front like this didn't really suprise me. it seems they were looking for new faces to fill in the gaps that the h!p graduates left.
the "average girl" style they've given her is really refreshing. the piano playing and slow songs are pluses to me because they're soothing. i'll probably make a flute cover for this song sometime soon^^
also, please let us know if you get the chance to fly in for ax! it seems like i might be seeing a lot of people i'm familiar w/ from other blogs and h!o there as well :D
p.s. completely agree w/ what matt_d said about the girls' (reina in particular) reactions about fans in LA
Comment by Specktakus on Friday, 6th March 2009 08:07 I can't say that I love any of her singles yet. Not that they're bad, they just don't instantly grab your attention (like most H!P singles).
Being that I'm male, I see her appeal and it's hard not to like her. She has a very sweet, nice and calm personality (and looking like the love child of Sayumi and Maimi doesn't hurt).
Comment by ddrchik on Friday, 6th March 2009 12:19 UPDATE: Paul..brace yourself and visit H!O...Buono!'s headed your way
Comment by Shadow on Friday, 6th March 2009 12:48 First MM is going to LA and now Buono is going to europe! (just what ddrchik told me lol) how are we fans supposed to choose in these trying times.
Comment by paul.thomas on Friday, 6th March 2009 13:22 Matt_D, hmmm I'll have to check out the google link map bug. I agree totally about with your comments about it all being PR (I so wanna go into more detail but I'll leave it till I get around to making a post about the whole thing next week sometime as it could be a bit long), just being done to cause a stir amongst both the Japanese and fans from the respective countries. Certainly if they said at an expo in London I'd go all out, which I imagine is there plan. Have you heard Buono! are doing Swedens Expo? Work out a ton cheaper than going to LA (obviously, lol) so far £240 for flight and hotel...so, so, so tempting!
Cyndi, lol I know what you mean about the eyes, as for eating me....it may just be you ;p but I totally know what you mean about the eyes!
Morningtime, yea I was looking through your post about it on your blog awhile ago and some of the scans are just amamzing, I think my favourite out of all the scans I've seen so far is the one where she's wearing the white top and shorts (I think it's the 8th pic down on your scans) she just looks great!
I think you're right about Mano's style she's quite unique within H!P and the fact that they're really promoting her image as well gives me that feeling that it'll be hard for people to ignore her. Like H!P Enka releases they don't really seem to get anywhere and I wondered if this will happen with this release, but the fact that they're pushing her as a complete package rather than just her looks or her sound could really work in favour, well that and there's 5 sodding versions of the release lol, that's got to generate a lot sales right?
Lol, I read that as "face dance moves" and now can't the idea of Mano doing that Cadburys advert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y87iljXvpjQ But yeah it'll be good to see a new approach to PVs.
Hexi, I chop and change with my opinion on Mano, I know I've had the odd chat about her with you and I normally end up agreeing that I'm not quite sure what the fuss is about, but then othertimes I get sucked into her, perhaps it's just the whole thing that she is cute and I'm a sucker for cute girls :S But then on saying that I prefer her music to her, if you get what I mean I'm not overly keen on her personality.
ddrchik, looking forward to hearing you're flute cover, just subscribed to your YouTube channel (could of sworn I'd done it before but looks like I haven't). She'll certainly fill a gap and it's good to see that it's something quie unique. As for the Buono! in Europe thing, it's great isn't it and I'm in the mood of think that it's a no brainer for me to go. £240 for flights and hotel for the weekend, can't really go wrong with that?
Specktakus, they are different to most other H!P songs, give the new single some more listens I wasn't overly keen when I first heard it, but as with all of Mano's releases it's continuing to grow on me no end!
Shadow, I know it's great...looks like we're all be touring this year to catch H!P!
Comment by Matt_D on Friday, 6th March 2009 14:00 lol reminds me of when Momoi did her short tour, LA then Germany in as many months.
Buono event is a bit too close and I have alot of deadlines, also no Reina, or Ai.
See you're dangling a curious carrot and I am oh so intrigued, it sure sounds more interesting then my "government managing of the banking sector being gordo milking a cow with his eyes closed and it being swapped out for a donkey and gordo being suprised" comparison. oo Carrots, donkeys, heh.
Erck I think I'd be depressed if they played at an expo here, the aqustics in that building are not worth thinking about.
However, I wonder if someone is going to play at Connichi.
And as an avid reader of Manos' blog (she provides such slice of life commentary) I love her personality. She just shines.
Comment by Julili on Friday, 6th March 2009 18:13 Hi Paul! Just wanted to let u know what Bouno! is coming to stockholm the 24th of May. You must come!!
Comment by Morningtime on Friday, 6th March 2009 19:59 That face dancing advert creeps me out. Really does.
The whole set of pictures with Mano in the white top and shorts is just heaven. The best picture I couldn't post as it's over two pages. Having to post it in two pictures would kind of ruin the effect.
As for the amount of versions of the single, have you worked out how much you'd have to spend to get them all? :o
Comment by Matt_D on Friday, 6th March 2009 21:47 doh - just booked tickets to bouno
Comment by paul.thomas on Saturday, 7th March 2009 13:15 Matt_D, as much as I'd love to be able and go see a H!P unit in the UK I have reservations about it, I like the idea of being able to travel to see them getting on the train down to Excel Centre doesn't have the same appeal to me lol. If they were to perform in the UK I'd love for it to be a proper thing rather than an Expo...but I guess that won't happen, well unless someone does one of them small sets in Orbital Manga which seems to happen every now and then, but again...the shops small and I don't know, I'm waffling.. You got tickets for Sweden thing? I was checking that out last night, do you just get tickets to the event? Or is the ticket for the Buono! performance something different?
Julili, yea it's great isn't it! Are you going? Im seriously thinking of going along, just a pain that I've already spent so much cash this month...but then that's what saving are for right, lol?
Morningtime, once I watch that advert I can't stop myself, it's a bit freaky but I find it so funny.
I'm thinking when I get paid next I may grab Mano's PB, the photos do look great, I really love the white shirt and shirt shots...they'd probably be my main reason for buying it lol.
I didn't know but I do now, just under £60.... I think I might just splash out on one or two lol!!!
Comment by Matt_D on Saturday, 7th March 2009 16:56 yeah you just get tickets to the event as a whole, they're using ticket master to book the place, the systems only part translated but it's navigatable enough.
The bonus is it's a bank holiday weekend woohoo lol, although I was planning on using the bank holiday to study and sleep but such is life.
Comment by Otaku-san on Saturday, 7th March 2009 18:55 This is a bit off-topic, but I just found out that Buono! will be performing live in Stockholm on the 25th of May. Just thought that you may find this information usefull.
Comment by Otaku-san on Saturday, 7th March 2009 18:57 Silly me, I just realised that somebody already mentioned the Buono! live. I should have read all the comments. Sorry about that
